Editorial policy
Modern Conversation aims to make cultural and language topics clear without pretending that every question has one settled answer. We value accuracy, independence, context and plain disclosure.
Accuracy and context
We check factual statements against suitable sources and take care to distinguish established information from interpretation or opinion. Language and social customs vary across communities and situations, so we avoid presenting one group’s usage as universal. When a topic is contested or uncertain, we say so rather than smoothing away the disagreement.
Independence
Editorial choices are made for their relevance to readers and the publication’s subject. A commercial relationship does not buy favourable editorial coverage or a promised conclusion. Where a connection could affect how a piece is understood, we explain it clearly.
Corrections
If a reader flags a possible error, we review the point and amend an article when a correction is warranted. We make meaningful changes clear in the article where appropriate. Readers can use the Contact page to tell us what needs checking and where it appears.
Partner material and illustrations
Material created as part of a paid or other partner arrangement is clearly identified as such and kept distinct from independent editorial coverage. Some illustrations may be AI-generated; those images are used as illustrations, not as documentary evidence, and are identified where appropriate.
